KUCHING: As a significant private entity, the Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers’ Association (SHEDA) Bintulu aims to contribute progressively to the vision of the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) in making Bintulu a model of inclusivity, liveability, and sustainability.

Its chairman, Joshua Sia, stated that this objective was conveyed by the general manager of BDA, Datuk Muhammad Yakub Kari, in a recent meeting between the two parties.

According to Sia, this aligned with Bintulu’s ongoing development towards becoming a carbon industrial hub by 2030.

“As an important private entity, SHEDA aspires to contribute progressively to this vision within our expertise, in collaboration with BDA, to implement these initiatives without directly impacting developers’ costs.

“For example, this involves designating a certain percentage of public areas earmarked for development for art installations, promoting local artist creativity, installing solar panels on public buildings, utilising them to generate power for public use, and reducing government energy expenses,” he said during his speech at the SHEDA Bintulu Property Expo 2023 held at Times Square Mega Mall, Bintulu yesterday.

However, he noted that achieving these goals requires a strategic approach and mutually beneficial cooperation between both parties.

A total of 32 housing development companies from across Sarawak participated in the property expo, which ran from Aug 25 to 27.

Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming officiated at the symbolic opening ceremony.
