SIBU: New political leaders are needed here in order to take the local seats from the opposition in the next state election.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) is confident of winning according to the party’s Bawang Assan branch chairman Robert Lau Hui Yew.
“In fact, Sibu deserves new leaders,” he said with a lot of stress on ‘deserves’ because the constituency has fallen behind other towns and many young people are leaving and not returning.
He noted that DAP had been in power at the federal level for two years now and in a position to do something to revitalise this town, but had over the last three decades.
“The same was true of the two assemblymen who were members of the so-called Sibu Visionary Team,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday when commenting on efforts by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to wrest Sibu seats from the opposition in the next state election.
Lau believes that it is time for change for Sibu to have any hope of a better future.
Tamin assemblyman, Christopher Gira, thought it was possible to win Sibu seats in the next state election.
“Sibu seats are DAP strongholds. But if GPS component parties work together and harder to win the hearts of the constituents, they can win,” he said.
For Bawang Assan seat, Gira said while it is now under Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), GPS should have little problem of securing it if its component parties are united.
