Sibu Jaya’s fire station to begin operations Oct 1

SIBU: In the township of Sibu Jaya here, the construction of a new fire station has been completed. With construction costs totalling up to RM58 million, the facility will be ready to operate on Oct 1.

The facility was officially handed over by the Sibu Public Works Department to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) yesterday.

The fire station will serve areas within a 10km radius of Sibu Jaya, Durin, Kemuyang and Sibu Hospital.

Sarawak Bomba director Khirudin Drahman told the press that the fire station would officially commence operations on Oct 1.

Sited next to Sibu Airport, about 26km from the town centre, it will be initially manned by 32 firefighters and officers.

With the completion of the Sibu Jaya fire station, Sarawak now has a total of 34 fire stations.
