SIBU: The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) is among seven Sarawak local authorities that will observe Earth Hour this year, with the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) playing host.

The other five are the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC), Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), and Miri City Council (MCC).

The seven councils will observe the event simultaneously tomorrow (Mar 25) for one hour from 8.30 pm onwards.

SMC chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh said the event is very meaningful to create awareness about the importance of protecting and preserving the environment.

He said the event started in 2017 and this year is the fifth time it has been organised.

“Last year, the event was organised online by inviting local authorities in Sarawak to participate.

“This year, we appointed MBKS to host the Earth Hour 2023 themed ‘Time Out for Nature’ and Sibu is one of the participants in the event this year,” he told a press conference yesterday.
