KUCHING: Grab driver Sim TH who was shot by his passenger on Thursday, is recuperating in the Sarawak General Hospital after undergoing an operation several hours later.

Six pellets were taken out from the back of his head, back and chest.

Sim, aged 43 from Sekama Road, was ferrying his second passenger for the day when he was hit with a hammer on his head and then shot at by his passenger, believed to be Indonesian.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Sim who is still in pain, said he sent his first customer from the Kuching International Airport to Mile 7 and was passing by Kuching Sentral when he saw he had a job on.

He picked the suspect at 3.10pm who told him to go to Jantayu Strawberry Farm in Matang.

The call that ended in horror.

He said the suspect sat at the rear passenger seat and told him he was being tasked by his boss to ferry a few workers to town.

The man went on to tell Sim that he had spent RM100 to buy lunch for the workers.

Sim said as they were approaching the farm, the suspect told him he wanted to answer the call of nature.

Sim stopped his car but before he knew it, he was hit on the head and a shot rang out.

When he realised he was being attacked, Sim ran for his life with the suspect chasing after him.

Sim ran back to the car, jumped in and locked himself inside which was when another shot rang out, which very nearly shattered the side glass window.

Sim said he was bracing for another shot, which, however, did not come because his attacker made a dash for the nearby jungle when a passing car honked.

He said that honking car had saved him but unfortunately it did not stop, and neither the next few passing cars despite him madly waving them down.

He said he lost count of how many cars ignored his waving downs when a stranger finally stopped, called for an ambulance and remained there with him until it arrived.

“Unfortunately, I was too weak to ask for his name, but I want to thank him now,” Sim said.

Sim said he is not sure if he will continue to do Grab when he has fully recovered.

“I really don’t know. Besides, my car is still with the police. I don’t know how long it is going to be there.”
