SJKC Methodist in Sibu will close beginning today after one of its teachers tested positive for Covid-19.

SIBU: Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Methodist here will be closed from tomorrow (March 19) after one of its teachers tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday (March 17).

Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee said the closure was effective until further notice.

“The school will only reopen after the swab test results on close contacts are out,” he said on Thursday (March 18).

The Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister explained that the Sibu DDMC had decided that the school headmaster would identify all close contacts to the case including teachers and pupils.

“They will undergo the swab tests at Lanang Health Clinic on Friday (March 19).

“I have discussed with the state Education director Dr Norisah Suhaili and Sibu District Education officer Ahli Chikba and also informed the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas about the decisions on school closure and the active case detection (ACD),” said Dr Annuar.

Dr Annuar, who is also the Education, Science and Technological Research Assistant Minister and Nangka assemblyman, further advised those who showed symptoms such as fever or flu not to come to work as well as advised parents  not to send their children to school.

“The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) will do the disinfection work tomorrow (March 19),” he added.
