TEBEDU: The construction of the centralised school, SK Kujang Mawang, has achieved a 20 per cent completion mark.

Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said this achievement has surpassed the initial target of 15 per cent.

He praised the Serian Public Works Department (JKR), and contractor SCIB Industrial Building System Sdn Bhd for their commitment and efficient project execution.

Sagah, who is also the Tarat assemblyman, expressed his gratitude to former Education, Science and Technological Research minister, Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong, who now serves as an advisor in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Education), for his efforts in ensuring the realisation of this school construction.

“Based on the report from Serian JKR, construction work commenced on Feb 23, 2023, with a contract value of RM23mil.

“The project’s implementation period is 24 months, running from March 9, 2023, to March 8, 2025,” he said during a visit to the SK Kujang Mawang site recently.

Sagah added that the project’s objective is to replace dilapidated school buildings as well as low-enrolment schools (SKM), which will reduce operating and maintenance expenses while providing modern and comprehensive infrastructure facilities.

On the same note, he stated that the project is designed to accommodate students from SKM in Tebedu District, covering a distance of 18km.

Also present during the visit were Deputy Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada, and others.

For the record, in 2017, the Sarawak Education Department identified a total of 651 SKM throughout the state, of which 263 can be consolidated into 49 schools.

This project represents the third phase of the 11th Malaysia Plan dilapidated school programme in Sarawak, with an allocation of RM1bil for the schools involved.
