KUCHING: The Social Development Council (MPS) has given the green light to the development of a unified system called the Integrated Social Issues Case Management System (ISICMS).

Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah stated that the purpose of ISICMS is to manage complex social issues cases in an integrated manner in Sarawak.

“ISICMS will serve as an enabler for the welfare of the first community ever built and used in Malaysia to address social issues faced by individuals, involving various related agencies and communities.

“The development of the system will be funded by the Sarawak government and is expected to take at least one year,” she explained during a press conference after attending the MPS meeting at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here on Wednesday (Feb 14).

Fatimah outlined several objectives for ISICMS, including establishing a conducive ecosystem for addressing social issue cases in an integrated manner in Sarawak.

The system aims to increase help-seeking rates among vulnerable communities, especially for treatment and recovery from issues such as drug and substance abuse, mental health, and domestic violence.

“Most importantly, ISICMS seeks to strengthen social support, referral interventions, and recovery rates for individuals and families affected by social issues.”

Fatimah added that a total of 287 programmes and social interventions are planned for 2024. This includes 12 integrated community social support and intervention projects aligned with the social inclusivity objectives of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

Among the highlighted programmes are Randau Pembangunan Social (RPS), Randau Solidariti Komuniti (RSK), Wacana Minda, and Wacana Bestari, alongside any activities related to the intervention project under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

Permanent secretary Noriah Ahmad was among the distinguished guests present during the ceremony.
