MIRI : The mayor of Gochang-gun, Deokseob Shim, and chairman of Gochang city council , Jungho Lim, and their delegation from the Republic of Korea paid a courtesy visit on the Miri City Council yesterday (May 19).

According to a press release, one of the purposes of the visit is the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a “Friendship City” between Gochang-gun, Jeollabukdo, Republic of Korea, and Miri City Council which is scheduled to take place today (May 20).

Ariffin Mohamad, deputy mayor of Miri City Council, said he had received valuable information about the numerous historic sites in Gochang-gun (county), including the renowned UNESCO heritage site of Gochang dolmens, fortresses, temples, and more.

“Gochang- gun is well-known for its picturesque farms, delightful cuisine, and various attractions. It has come to my attention that there are several similarities between Gochang-gun and Miri City.

“In light of this, we can explore opportunities to share experiences, exchange ideas and discuss our practices in these areas for mutual benefits. Definitely, this collaboration aligns with Miri City Council’s vision of transforming Miri into the most liveable green, smart and resort city,” he said.
