KUCHING: Women, Early Childhood and Community Well-being Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah fully welcomes the establishment of a special committee to look into issues related to citizenship in the country.
“It (setting up of a special committee) is timely,” she told New Sarawak Tribune when contacted.
She was prompted for comments on Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail’s recent remark that the government has set up a special committee to look into all citizenship matters in the country.
In view of that, Fatimah also said that her ministry will pay a courtesy visit to Saifuddin sometime next week.
“In our courtesy call to the Minister on January 17, we will share issues with regard to stateless children in Sarawak,” she said.
On Jan 9, it was reported that Saifuddin in a press conference, said that the Home Ministry has started to prepare a Cabinet paper with regard to the special committee to look into citizenship issues.
The matter, he said, should be ready earliest by next month.
