KUCHING: As Sarawak gears up for the Independence Day celebration, special thanksgiving prayers will be held next Friday (July 21) at Pullman hotel here at 9 am.

Organised by Unit for Other Religion (UNIFOR), 700 people are expected to attend the session which will include representatives from various houses of worships.

Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang said the theme for the prayer session will be ‘Prosperity, Peace, Political Stability, Unity, Leaders and Social Inclusivity Blessings upon Sarawak’.

“There will be seven thanksgiving prayers, beginning with Baha’i, followed by Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Sikhism and Taoism and each group will be given five minutes to recite their prayers.

“This is what makes Sarawak a unique state, and we want to keep it that way,” he said during a press conference for the upcoming event at the UNIFOR office today.

On another note, UNIFOR director Datuk Jack Aman Luat said preparations for the prayer session are smooth.
