LUNDU: Upgrading and repair works for the Lundu Sports Complex are long overdue.

Tanjung Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan said the complex had stood for 24 years repair and maintenance works were necessary to ensure the safety of users.

“I hope that the sports complex which serves as a football stadium, indoor stadium and futsal court can be repaired and maintained with emphasis on safety issues. The sports complex can be used as a place to train Sarawak’s sportsmen in a natural environment,” he said.

Azizul was welcoming Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu at the Lundu District Council office. Gerald was on a working visit to Lundu on Wednesday (March 9).

He hoped the sports complex would host friendly matches and international football events once the borders reopened.

Azizul noted that youths in his constituency were not only active in politics but also very talented in sports, adding that Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Tanjung Datu Youth held a futsal competition in collaboration with Kelab Futsal Felcra and Kelab Belia Maju Lundu this month.

“In fact, a friendly match between Belia Lundu FC and Kuching City FC-U21 was also held last month.

“Moreover, e-sport programmes have been organised to meet the youths’ current digital interests and development in line with the state government’s drive for digitalisation,” he added.

Also present were Lundu District Officer Gustian Durani, Lundu District Council secretary Norashikin Brahim and other dignitaries.
