SIBU: Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) deputy chairman Wong Ching Yong was at the AMCORP office in Sibu Jaya to discuss the construction of an Olympic-standard swimming and diving pool.

The swimming and diving pool was initially proposed by Wong when he was nominated as a Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for the Lanang parliamentary constituency in the 15th general election in 2022.

“Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Datuk Pattinggi Abang Johari supported Wong’s proposal and publicly announced his approval on Nov 14 last year.

As the Premier had approved the construction of an Olympic-standard pool, Wong said he is hopeful that his election promise will be implemented.

“To further advance the project, discussions were held with Phuah Chee Kien, the executive director of AMCORP, the developer of Sibu Jaya,” he said in a statement.

The discussions between SRDC and AMCORP proved to be highly valuable, focusing on the preliminary design, concept, and ideal location for the pool.
