KUCHING: Sarawak United People Party (SUPP) Stakan Branch has hit out at PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and demanded that he apologise for his recent statement that non-Muslims and non-bumiputra are the causes of corruption in the country.

In a statement on Monday (Aug 22), Stakan SUPP described Hadi’s remarks as unbecoming of a national-level leader, who is part of the federal government.

“This is totally unacceptable and a gross injustice to more than one third of the population of Malaysia.

“We demand that Hadi apologise for this uncouth and distasteful statement.”

“Corruption is a disease and like any disease, it does not discriminate.

“There have been people from all walks of life, including leaders from the Muslim and Bumiputera community who have been found guilty of corruption, so have leaders and those from non-Muslim communities,” Stakan SUPP added.

Stakan SUPP said they were relieved that “there is good and sensible leadership in Sarawak under Gabungan Parti Sarawak.

“Thankfully, this sort of sentiment is small or probably non-existent in Sarawak.

“Nevertheless, we must always nip the problem in the bud before it becomes a problem for our unity and prosperity,” it added.
