State records only 18 COVID-19 cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 18 new COVID-19 cases on Friday (Jan 7), all of which were in Category 1 and 2.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the cumulative total number of cases now stands at 252,461.

Kuching and Miri recorded five cases each, Bukit Mabong reported three cases,Samarahan (two cases) while Bintulu, Lundu, and Sri Aman recorded one case respectively.

SDMC also reported that one COVID-19 related death occurred on Jan 5 involving an 86-year-old woman from Sarikei.

It said that the woman who had a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and heart disease passed away at Sarikei Hospital.

Meanwhile, seven compound notices were issued to errant individuals for failing to comply with the Covid-19 standard operating procedures.

“The compounds were all issued in Kuching. This brings the total number of compounds issued to date to 12,836,” SDMC said in a statement yesterday.
