ALL provisions that should have been implemented by the federal government had to be taken over by the state government, said Datuk Murshid Diraja Dr Juanda Jaya (GPS-Jemoreng).

He described the State 2020 Budget as good, people-oriented and pro-development especially for the rural people.

Off the cuff, he named a few items in the budget such as subsidies for fishermen, electricity, and water supply; assistance for newborns and mothers; assistance for entrepreneurs and farmers; and establishment of the state coastal guard.

“The GPS government has even taken the initiative to help repair/rebuild dilapidated schools even though it is the responsibility of the federal government according to the Federal Constitution and Malaysia Agreement 1963. So, what is happening?” he said.

Juanda also figured that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government was putting pressure on Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), thus forcing the national broadcast to only cover news about Pakatan Harapan.

Besides that, he criticised the PH’s intention to disunite the people of Sarawak through the Federal Village Community Management Council (MPKKP).

“They think the existing village development and security committees (JKKKs) exist without proper legislation, but they forgot that the Tuai Rumah, Ketua Kampung and Penghulu are not confined to managing longhouses and villagers but also managing the customs of the people, validating marriages, matters pertaining to death and others.

“Will the MPKKP also handle this? Obviously, the MPKKP is a ‘family-splitting’ council and we want it to be prevented from entering Sarawak,” he said in his speech during the debate of the budget yesterday.
