LIMBANG: The Sarawak government has committed to planting 35 million trees across the state by 2025.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that this will contribute to Malaysia’s national goal of planting 100 million trees within the same timeframe.

According to him, this initiative is a cornerstone of Sarawak’s response to the national Malaysian Greening Programme and is fully aligned with the state’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“We are committed to supporting the ‘Greening Sarawak: Towards Greener Generation’ initiative in Sarawak,” he told reporters during the opening ceremony of the Limbang Arbor Day 2024 Programme on Saturday.

To date, the Sarawak government, through the Forest Department Sarawak, has made significant progress, with 32,477,007 trees already planted.

He expressed optimism that recent planting efforts and an additional donation of 1,000 trees during the Al-Quran Tilawah and Hafazan Sarawak-level competition will further bolster these numbers.
