KUCHING: Discussions to manufacture hydrogen and electric vehicles in Sarawak in the future is ongoing.

Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said talks with countries such as Korea and Japan have been held.

“Our representatives from the state government have discussed with our partners from Korea, Japan and other countries that produce such vehicles.

“We could adopt their technology to produce our own hydrogen or electric cars later. We want to produce these cars so that we could achieve the goal of zero carbon emissions,” he said when met by reporters after the opening ceremony of the Low Carbon City Seminar at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.

He hoped the transfer of technology could be done immediately to support the goal and hydrogen vehicles could be widely used by Sarawakians.

“If the production of the vehicle is done here, the prices will definitely be affordable and our people can own these cars,” he added.
