MONSOON PREPARATION... Sarawak Fire and Rescue Director, Datuk Khirudin Drahman@Hussaini briefed Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian on equipment to face the monsoon season at the Public Learning Center Launch ( Community Learning Center-CIC) in Kuching yesterday.

KUCHING: The first Community Learning Centre (CLC) at Batu Lintang fire station is specially prepared for the community, children and students who want to learn more about fire prevention, fire safety and firefighting.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) director Datuk Khirudin Drahman said the establishment of the centre was the result of strategic discussions and collaboration with Yayasan Farley.

The process of building the centre began in August. It is also the department’s first CLC in Sarawak.

“On this occasion, I thank the department’s strategic partner, Yayasan Farley, for their contribution to the establishment of this centre.

“They have spent about RM40,000 to ensure that this centre can be used comfortably by students and so on,” he said during the launch yesterday.

Deputy Premier cum Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian officiated at the launching ceremony.

Khirudin said that the strategic programmes are in line with the National Fire and Rescue Policy from 2021 to 2030.

He pointed out that it is the government’s main desire to create citizen life savers and people who are responsive to aspects of safety by inculcating high self-safety practices by the year 2030.

“The important goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of the people – by using the whole country and community approach.

“Thus, I believe that the existence of this CLC can meet the local safety knowledge needs, in addition to helping the community, especially school students, to learn more about fire safety,” he said.

Meanwhile, Yayasan Farley president Eijing Lau said the centre will benefit seven primary schools involving 3,000 pupils, 200 teachers and 100 support staff on the importance of fire prevention and safety.

Other than that, the centre is also able to accommodate 80 to 100 pupils at once.
