KUCHING: The Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS) is actively working to enhance ties between Sarawak and Singapore, leveraging the island nation’s market potential.

STATOS chief executive officer (CEO), Chew Chang Guan, said the organisation had teamed up with many local partners, acting as their external sales and marketing arm in Singapore.

“Our primary function is to facilitate interactions between our stakeholders and potential Singaporean buyers or collaborators. When there’s interest from a Singaporean investment entity in Sarawak, we step in to connect them with the right agency or ministry, essentially playing the role of a business intermediary,” Chew said in an interview with New Sarawak Tribune today (Feb 13).

He highlighted STATOS’s robust network, including membership in the Singapore Chamber of Commerce and the Singapore Business Federation, which positions the organisation as a pivotal link for stakeholders seeking to engage with appropriate Singaporean agencies.

Chew also said STATOS’s growing collaboration with partners in Sarawak, spanning both private and government sectors.

“We keep a database of potential investors, detailing their investment preferences and amounts, aiming to bridge these prospects with relevant ministries, hoping to turn these engagements into fruitful investments,” he added.

Chew also shared upcoming initiatives, such as STATOS’s participation in the Food and Hotel Asia Singapore 2024 and the MATTA Travel Fair in March to promote Sarawak as an attractive holiday destination.
