BINTULU: With the aim of promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers, STEM it up! team has set their quest to two selected secondary schools in Bintulu, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMk) Asyakirin and SMK Kemena.

In a press statement today, its spokesperson said STEM Quest is one of the series of activities under the STEM it up! campaign developed by Persuasive Communication final year students from the School of Communication of Universiti Sains Malaysia in collaboration with Shell MDS (M) Sdn Bhd.

“The project targets busting myths and negative stereotypes about STEM education among parents and school-going children.

“Before this, STEM Quest was a success at MRSM Balik Pulau, MRSM Kepala Batas and Universiti Sains Malaysia Engineering Campus in Penang,” it said.

The statement added that the activities that have been carried out under STEM Quest included a sharing session about STEM career journeys by Beverly Waynee, product innovation manager of Shell MDS (M) Sdn Bhd and Ir Abang Nizamuddin, electrical safety and power system engineer of Shell MDS (M) Sdn Bhd, followed by a series of interactive STEM-related games.

“STEM it up! team hopes that this opportunity is able to aid in increasing awareness about STEM education and career opportunities in STEM-related fields, specifically among secondary students.

“These students are the country’s future leaders as STEM helps to produce a skilled workforce that is necessary for Malaysia to thrive as a country, meet the demands of a STEM-driven economy and further navigate the Industrial Revolution 4.0,” it said.
