KUCHING: A fatal car-motorcycle crash along Mile 24, Jalan Kuching-Serian on Saturday evening (July 22) claimed the lives of a secondary school student and a motorcyclist.

The incident happened around 6.30 pm and involved a Proton Wira car, driven by a 54-year-old man with his 54-year-old wife and two children, aged eight and 13.

The motorcycle was ridden by a 24-year-old labourer.

According to Padawan police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, the victims were identified as 13-year-old Michael Ebes Ali, who was a passenger in the backseat of the car, and 24-year-old Jamebres Jurim, the motorcyclist.

Investigations revealed that the accident occurred when the Proton Wira attempted to make a U-turn back to Kuching at the Jalan Kuching-Serian Lama junction.

All of sudden, Jamebres crashed into the left rear passenger door of the car, which caused him to be thrown onto the road. Michael, on the other hand, got trapped in the backseat due to the impact of the crash and had to be rescued by emergency personnel.
