KUCHING: Tie and dye, a textile colouring technique involving the binding of fabric before dyeing, has emerged as a crucial component of Malaysia’s textile art heritage since the 1970s.

During an interview at Kuching Community College yesterday, an architecture instructor at Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sarawak, Ramizah Muna Mohadi, was pleased at seeing schools in Sarawak now offering tie and dye skills training to students.

Ramizah also said that the Tie & Dye activity not only enables students to engage in practical work but also nurtures a sense of accomplishment through entrepreneurial endeavours.

Nur Marezah Umar, a second-year student of the Fashion and Garment Certificate Course was pleased in being able to actively participate in the creative process, allowing her to craft unique patterns and captivating colour combinations for her own clothing.

“This product holds immense market potential as it appeals to a diverse range of customers, spanning various segments of society and age groups, seeking modern and distinctive fashion choices,” said Nur Marezah.
