Students participate in global citizenship programme

Students from Toyo University, Japan.

KUCHING: A group of 32 students comprising 20 from Toyo University Japan, 11 from International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-CATS) and a student from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) recently participated in a six-day Global Citizenship Programme.

Held from August 17 to 22, the programme was jointly organised by Toyo University and Global Incubation Fostering Talents (GiFT), a non-profit organisation based in Toyo, Japan and supported by Midin Events Company and i-CATS.

The event aimed at promoting global citizenship education and fostering mutual trust and respect among fellow human beings around the globe. It provided students with an opportunity to learn about diversity and develop lifelong friendship with overseas and local students.

The students visited various places of interest and tourist attractions in and around Kuching, in addition to experiencing various activities at i-CATS West Campus here.

Misaki Kemmochi

During the closing ceremony at i-CATS, Misaki Kemmochi, a Diploma in Sociology student from Toyo University, Japan said, “This is my first time in Kuching and I am very happy to have friends here.

“They showed me examples of unity amidst diversity. I will definitely share my experiences here with my family and friends when I return home,” remarked Misaki.

John Chulif

John Chulif (alias Douglas Chulip), a Diploma in Hotel Management student from i-CATS commented, “The programme unveiled the cultural differences between Japan and Sarawak and it is a good platform for us to learn and get to know each other.”
