KUCHING: Sarawak requires RM200 million for the enhancement of the sports stadium and facilities in preparation for the upcoming Malaysia Games (SUKMA) next year.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this amount was determined based on feedback from various parties involved and will be presented to the Sarawak Cabinet.

“The allocated funds will primarily focus on the upgrade work, although the committee will thoroughly assess the specific areas that require upgrades.

“This will involve seeking feedback from those responsible for overseeing the stadium, court, and other relevant facilities, as they are aware that the government will provide funding for the necessary infrastructure enhancements. But I know the cost will decrease because not all will be approved later,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after officiating at the Pre-Launch Ceremony of the 2023 National Level HMA Celebration at the Plaza Merdeka shopping centre here yesterday.
