MUKAH: Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity & Ombudsman), Datuk Talib Zulpilip (pic) said integrity is crucial in the development of any country or organisation.

He said Sarawak was fortunate when the late chief minister Pehin Seri Adenan Satem signed a corruption-free pledge, making Sarawak the first state in the country to commit to clean governance.

“The same step was taken by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, after two weeks of taking over the state leadership, he vowed and signed the anti corruption pledge,” he said during the third series of ‘Program Jelajah Integriti’ at Menara Pehin Setia Raja Tower yesterday.

“As leaders, let us stay off corruption; it is a disease that can destroy our future and make us neglect our responsibility.

“I also urge all community leaders and longhouse chiefs not to engage with companies that have their own interests because it will affect the government’s effort to provide the best service to its people,” he pointed out.

Talib called on the people to work together with the government, saying community leaders and longhouse chiefs must practise integrity at all times.

“Never engage in corruption because as leaders we must never betray our promise to serve the people and the state the best we can,” he said.
