KUCHING: In a groundbreaking move towards fortifying cybersecurity measures, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM), and Nex Vision have inked a momentous Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This strategic collaboration aims to tackle the ever-growing challenges in cybersecurity by elevating training programs and fostering joint research initiatives across diverse cybersecurity domains.

The primary focus of this partnership is to empower individuals and industries with essential knowledge and skills to navigate the rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape, which has become increasingly reliant on digital technologies and connectivity.

Pro Vice-Chancellor and CEO of Swinburne Sarawak, Professor Lau Hieng Ho, emphasized the critical importance for organizations to enhance their cybersecurity capabilities in the face of rising cyber threats. He affirmed that this powerful tripartite alliance would pool their expertise, consolidating resources to ensure robust cybersecurity practices.

As part of this momentous collaboration, Swinburne Sarawak proudly announced the appointment of CSM’s CEO, Datuk Dr Amirudin Abdul Wahab, as an Adjunct Professor. This recognition serves as a testament to his invaluable contributions to the field of cybersecurity. In his new role, Amirudin will extend support to the university in postgraduate supervision and research, further enhancing the institution’s capabilities in cybersecurity.

A delegation led by Amirudin recently visited Swinburne Sarawak to formalize the MoU signing. During this visit, Amirudin had the opportunity to address the Swinburne community at the Industry-University-Community Connect Series. His insights into emerging global cybersecurity trends and their impact on skill requirements and industry growth in Malaysia were met with great enthusiasm.

The event concluded with a tour of Swinburne Sarawak’s state-of-the-art cybersecurity learning facilities, showcasing the university’s commitment to staying at the forefront of cybersecurity education.

The signing ceremony was graced by the presence of Sarawak Business Federation president Datuk Seri Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg, adding further significance to this historic collaboration.
