Taib, Abang Jo join thousands for Aidiladha prayers

KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib joined about 8,000 Muslims in performing special Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Jamek in Petra Jaya yesterday. Joining the congregation was Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg Some of the celebrants arrived at the mosque as early as 7.30am.

The one-hour prayer which began at 8am was led by State Mosque deputy Imam Besar Ustaz Mohd Ihsan Kadir. The sermon was delivered by State Mufti Datuk Kipli Yassin.

Also present were DUN Speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar; Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Rural Electricity Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman; and Sarawak Islamic Religious Council (Mais) president Datuk Misnu Taha.

Later, Taib and Ragad, accompanied by Abang Johari and some members of the congregation, witnessed a sacrificial ritual at Dewan Hikmah, which is adjacent to Masjid Jamek.
