BAU: Locals here are excited for the completion of a pedestrian bridge across Tasik Biru scheduled for December next year.

New Sarawak Tribune interviewed several individuals on their views of the upcoming bridge crossing the iconic lake.

Danny Ngumbang, an assistant Administrative Officer in Bau District Office said the bridge will definitely be a tourist attraction for both locals and visitors from outside of Bau.

“The proposed bridge can provide the visitors an experience of crossing the lake unlike before, people only get to see around and outside of the lake.

“There are jungle trekking tracks on the other side of the lake and hopefully the visitors can explore the lakeside and surrounding hill,” he said.

Danny added the completion of the bridge would make Bau a tourist attraction as there are many homestays located in Bau.

“After hearing about the pedestrian bridge project, I’ve felt excited because I believe it will boost tourism in Bau and attract more visitors, even from outside of Sarawak,” she said.

Meanwhile, manager of Bau Internet Centre Benjamin Asin said, the bridge can help put Bau as a ‘must visit’ tourist destination in Sarawak and Malaysia.

“There are many visitors to the Blue Lake but sadly they aren’t able to see every side of the Blue Lake. This bridge can definitely attract the visitors to come to Bau and see the other side that they didn’t know about,” he said.

An assistant manager of the Internet Centre, Christopher Edwin said the centre was already preparing a website to promote the blue lake once the bridge is completed next year.

He is confident that the pedestrian bridge will boost the tourism industry and improve the socio-economy of the people in Bau.
