JULAU: A teenage pillion rider died while her motorcyclist suffered minor injuries following a hit-and-run accident at Jalan Julau-Nanga Entabai on Monday.

The accident happened around 9pm when both victims were on a motorcycle, heading into a housing area to find internet coverage.

All of a sudden, the victims were rammed from a behind by a vehicle with an unidentified plate number.

Julau police chief DSP Andam Sulin who confirmed the case, said the 20-year-old rider suffered minor injuries while his pillion rider, identified as Kamalia Fran George, 17, suffered severe injuries.

“The victim (Kamalia) was later rushed by her father to Julau Health Clinic. However, she was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

“The victim’s body was taken to Sarikei Hospital,” he said.

He urged the public who have information pertaining to or have witnessed the accident to come forward and assist in the investigation at Julau police headquarters (IPD).

Andam also advised the community to be cautious when on the road.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
