SERIAN: Five locals, including a teenager girl, were arrested for alleged involvement in a daring gang robbery along Jalan Kuching-Serian on Monday (June 5).

The incident, which left a 19-year-old boy traumatised and robbed, took place around 4.50 pm near Kampung Lintang Serian.

Serian police chief DSP Aswandy Anis said the victim had received a call from one of the suspects’ girlfriend, inviting him to a meet-up location for a business deal for her silver bracelet.

“However, upon arrival, the victim found himself immediately detained by four male suspects, who came in a Perodua Axia without a licence plate.

“They forcefully took his phone, cash amounting to RM550 and a silver chain and bracelet he was wearing before fleeing the scene,” he said, adding that the victim promptly lodged a police report.

Acting on information, the Serian Criminal Investigation Division (CID) managed to locate and arrest four men and a teenage girl aged between 22 and 29 yesterday (June 7).

Police seized the vehicle that was believed to have been used by the suspects and recovered the victim’s phone.

Background checks found that all of them, who tested positive for drugs, had prior records related to robbery and drug offences.

Aswandy said the suspects are being remanded at the Serian police lock-up to facilitate investigations under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
