Eight rolls of firecrackers seized by police for further investigation.

MIRI: A teenage boy suspected of running an illegal lottery operation was arrested by police during a raid on a premises at Jalan Miri-Bakong here, last Sunday.

Deputy Miri Police chief, Supt Stanley Jonathan said the 2.20pm raid was carried out by a police team from Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) following a public tip-off.

He said an 18-year-old boy who was at the premises was detained by the police to assist in the investigation.

Among the illegal lottery paraphernalia seized by police during the raid.

“Besides detaining the suspect, the police also seized a portable printer, three pieces of paper believed to be betting slips and RM778 in cash.

“Upon further inspection at the premises, police found eight rolls of firecrackers,” he said here.

Stanley said the suspect and the seized items were brought to the Miri Central Police Station for further investigation.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 4A (a) of the Open Gaming House Act, 1953 and Section 8 of the Explosive Act, 1957.
