KUCHING: Sarawak Patriots Association (SPA) welcomes any decision to be taken by the federal government on those who refused to get the Covid-19 vaccine.

Its chairman Datuk John Lau Pang Heng said that in Jakarta, they are planning to impose a fine of RM1,443 for those who do not want to take the vaccine and while some other countries have formulated their own strategies.

“The vaccination is to stop the spread of the virus, therefore SPA is encouraging everyone to accept it,” he said.

He was responding to news on Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah who has ruled out the possibility of action being taken against those who do not turn up to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

“We are battling with an invisible enemy and this virus infects anyone. So, please, let us support the vaccine programme for our safety,” Lau said.

Lau said now with the availability of the vaccine, it is a chance for people to defeat the virus by getting the shot.

“We need to win this fight against Covid-19 so that our life can return to normal and our economy will continue to improve.

“For the past 12 months, everyone is so worried about Covid-19. So now that we have the vaccine, we should take it to protect ourselves and those around us,” he said.

Lau added all SPA members have registered for the vaccination and hoped that Sarawakian that have yet to register will do so.
