Thousands to gather in Sibu Town Square on New Year’s Eve

SIBU: Thousands of people from all walks of life are expected to gather at the Sibu Town Square on Dec 31 to usher in the New Year.

According to organising chairman Cr Rory Wong, among the highlights for the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) New Year Countdown this year is a 10-minute fireworks display.

“We are expecting 30,000 people to turn up for this event,” he told a press conference at the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) premises here today.

Wong said the crowd would be entertained by various programmes by local artists starting from 7.30 pm till 12.30am the next day.

Among the local talents are  Menoah Hudson, Joe Ashley, Janet Ling Sing Jing, T-ga Band, The Sibu Busker, Klunan Magat, Little Apple, Amazing X, and The Powertive.

“In addition visitors could also titillate their taste buds with a diverse array of delectable cuisines as numerous food and beverage stalls, along with food trucks, promise a culinary experience like no other,” he said.

Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee will officiate at the event.
