Three locals arrested for illegal cockfight

Police officers raided an open space in an oil palm plantation in Jalan Sungai Pakan and arrested three locals.

JULAU: Three locals were arrested on Sunday (Sept 19) for taking part in an illegal cockfight.

They were picked up by the police at an oil palm plantation in Jalan Sungai Pakan here around 2pm.

District police chief DSP Andam Sulin said five roosters, a weighing scale, a piece of cardboard with numbers written on it and a spur were seized in the process.

“The suspects, aged between 35 and 75, and the items were brought to the Julau police headquarters for further investigation under Section 3 (1) of the Animal Cruelty Ordinance 1963.

“The trio are also fined RM1,500 each under Regulation 17 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures in Local Areas of Infection) (No. 3) 2021 for violating National Recovery Plan 2021 standard operating procedure (SOP),” he added.

DSP Andam warned the public against taking part in illegal activities and he advised that SOP compliance must be adhered to at all times.
