KUALA LUMPUR:  Tourism Malaysia and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) have signed a Memorandum of Joint Collaboration (MoJC) with Condor Airlines to support the airline’s Frankfurt-Kuala Lumpur flight operations for the summer 2019 season.

In a joint statement today, Tourism Malaysia and MAHB said the memorandum was signed in Berlin yesterday in conjunction with ITB Berlin, the world’s biggest tourism trade fair, witnessed by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi.

This development followed the success of a similar initiative undertaken for the winter 2018 season by all three parties, which saw Condor Airlines plying the Frankfurt-Kuala Lumpur route with more than 90 per cent load factor.

Mohamaddin said the success of the first partnership with Condor Airlines in 2018 helped Malaysia to gain a stronger footing in the German market, resulting in a 17.1 per cent growth in German tourist arrivals to Malaysia last year.

“We hope to continue strengthening our market presence here with this Condor Airlines and MAHB partnership especially as we build up towards Visit Malaysia 2020,” he added.

For the summer 2019 season, Condor Airlines would commence a twice-weekly service from May 2 to Oct 31, operating a fleet of B767-300 with a configuration of 235 seats, totalling 25,000 seats for the duration of the campaign.

With the scheduled flight by Condor Airlines, along with other strategic collaborations and promotions in the market, Tourism Malaysia is eyeing a rise in German arrivals to 147,000 in 2019. – Bernama
