KUCHING: Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and officials from his ministry and Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) will join the Bidayuh at Bung Bratak in Bau on Bung Bratak Day on May 1.
Bung Bratak Heritage Association (BBHA) chairman Datuk Peter Minos confirmed this after paying a courtesy call on the minister yesterday.
He said Abdul Karim and his entourage’s visit would be part of an exercise to further promote Bung Bratak as a Bidayuh historical-cultural centre.
“Located at a mountain top amidst virgin forests, floras and faunas, Bung Bratak offers the best of mountain scenery, a waterfall, fresh spring water, fresh mountain air and all things related to nature in the natural environment,” he said.
Minos said Bung Bratak is also a historical centre, being the original ancient home of the Jagoi-Bratak Bidayuh, who first settled there over 750 years ago from a place called Sungkong in Indonesia.
Bung Bratak Heritage Centre (BBHC) was set up to honour and pay homage to the ancestors of the Jagoi-Bratak Bidayuh tribe.
This year’s celebration themed ‘Enjoy Nature, Celebrate Life’ will also see a one-day food and drinks fair.
