KUCHING: Two traders were slapped with a compound fine of RM1,000 each for not adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the recovery movement control order (RMCO) at Moyan Square Commercial Centre, Jalan Tondong Batu Kawa on Sunday.

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said the traders, aged 38 (male) and 48 (female), were arrested by a patrol team consisting of police, army, People Volunteer’s Corp (Rela) and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) at 11.30am.

Both premises were found to be in violation of the RMCO by disobeying the SOPs set by the Health Ministry (MoH) in opening the premises to the public.

“Observations found that both premises did not implement the SOPs which includes social distancing, body temperature scanning, recording customers’ personal information such as name and phone number.

“Enforcement teams have been to the site several times to advise SOP compliance however, we find that they are still in denial and are not in compliance with the controls,” he said in a statement.

Aidil further noted that one of the premises operates as a grocery store selling daily essentials while, the other sells fresh meat at the said location.

Following the arrests, the premises owners were taken to the Kota Sentosa police station for compounding actions.

“Both individuals pleaded guilty and agreed to pay the compound fine within 14-working days until June 27,” he told.

The case is being investigated under Regulation 10 (Health director-general directive) of Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) (No 6) Regulations 2020.
