BINTULU: Aging parents who own shotguns, especially those in the rural areas, have been told to transfer the ownership of the weapons while they are alive or in a good health.

In giving this reminder on Wednesday during a gathering attended by longhouse chiefs and community leaders in Sungai Ayam Ulu Anap, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Sarawak Bumiputera Law and Customs) Datuk John Sikie Tayai said that doing so would help ease the process (changing the ownership) for their children who inherit the gun.

Sikie also credited efforts made by officers at Tatau, Sebauh and Bintulu district offices for having come up with a smart electronic application system during Sarawak’s creativity and innovation (KIK) competition last October.

The application, known as e-Fats, eases new applications, renewal and change of shotgun ownerships.

Also at the gathering, Sikie also announced an allocation of RM30,000 for Tatau leaders association.
