MIRI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a tug boat with three foreign crew members on board, about 3.6 nautical miles to the North West of Kuala Miri waters on Monday.

MMEA’s Miri zone director Captain Mohd Shafie Paing said that this action was taken because they had committed an offence under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952/60.

Upon inspecting the tug boat, it was discovered that its license had expired, and the crew members were unable to present proper identification documents.

The crew members were from Indonesia and India. They have been apprehended, and the tug boat was relocated to the Hung Hung jetty of Sungai Miri for further actions.

MMEA encourages the public to report any maritime issues or emergencies directly to the Malaysian Emergency Response Services (MERS) by dialing 999.

Alternatively, please contact with the Miri Maritime Zone Maritime Operations Centre at 085-418204 or the Sarawak Maritime Operations Centre at 082-432544/082-432016. These centres operate 24 hours.
