MUKAH: A Youth Community Programme focusing on transforming kitchen waste into compost and soap attracted 100 participants at the Igan Community Hall on Thursday (Dec 21).

The event, a collaboration between the Science, Plantation, and Agrotechnology Study Center of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Mukah Campus and the Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED), aimed to educate young Sarawakians about environmental management and recycling.

“This programme is designed to educate the youth about the importance of recycling kitchen waste. We also provide practical knowledge on how to convert waste and used cooking oil into quality compost and soap,” said Nurul Hidayah Mohd Khairlani, a senior lecturer at UiTM’s Faculty of Plantation and Agrotechnology.

Participants had hands-on experience in making compost and soap from kitchen waste and used oil, under the guidance of faculty members including Ts Mohd Hafizz Wondi, who shared his soap-making expertise.

The programme also featured an exhibition by UiTM Mukah Campus, showcasing Science and Mathematics Technology and Academic Mission.
