PADAWAN: Marine police here arrested two local men after they were allegedly found to be in possession of over 15,000 litres of diesel without valid documents yesterday.

Padawan district police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad in a statement, said the raid codenamed ‘Ops Kontraban’, was carried out around 6pm at one shed.

The warehouse, located around Pangkalan Baru, is believed to be used as a storage and collection of diesels.

“During the raid, the team spotted two men in the process of transferring diesel from a white plastic barrel into a tanker truck.

“Both men aged 20 and 32, were arrested as they failed to produce any documented evidence of permission to possess, store, carry controlled items without a permit or a licence from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP),” he said.

The team also seized a lorry, a pump, 27 plastic barrels and 18,700 litres of diesel, all of which are valued around RM294,900.

Abang Zainal stated that the suspects and seizures were referred to KPDNHEP for further investigation under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

He added that the police always welcome any public information regarding the misappropriation of such controlled goods.

The local police chief also stressed that legal action will be taken against any individual or company involved in activity that are detrimental to the country.

Sarawak marine police yesterday successfully foil an attempt to transport and possess controlled goods without valid documents in Padawan.
