KUCHING: Two police officers were remanded for four days by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for investigations on fake claims totalling RM19,980 to carry out remaining service work and building repair at the Julau district police headquarters.

Magistrate Siti Farah Ibrahim allowed the two suspects to be remanded for four days beginning January 18.

Both suspects, aged 49, were arrested at the Kuching Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office around 3.15 pm on yesterday (January 16).

The case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 which provides for a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, if convicted.

According to the MACC sources, in 2019, those at the Julau IPD were suspected of conspiring with a businessman (first suspect) to submit and use invoice documents and government orders containing fake details of RM19,980.

The claim was intended for the remainder of the Julau IPD building and repair work, but the work was not carried out.
