MUKAH: Two men were killed when the car they were travelling in was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry transporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders at KM132 Jalan Sibu-Bintulu near Selangau yesterday (Aug 2).

In the 3 pm incident, car driver Maxmilon Joseph, 25 from Kampung Sealine, Lutong Miri, and passenger Jeffery Belimi, 35, from Kuching died on the spot from severe head and body injuries.

Mukah police chief DSP Muhammad Rizal Alias said in a statement today the police received information about the incident at 4.47 pm.

“The initial investigation found that the accident occurred when the lorry, travelling straight from Tatau towards Selangau collided with the car which was travelling from the opposite direction.

“The driver and a passenger of the car were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Sungai Arip Health Clinic.

“Meanwhile, the lorry driver and its passenger escaped unhurt,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
