Two fined RM800 each for rioting

SIBU: A man and a woman found guilty of fighting in a public place were each ordered by the Magistrate’s Court here today to pay a fine of RM800 or 10 days’ imprisonment in default.

The accused, identified as Ekih, 45, and Patreccia, 29, each pleaded guilty to the charges read out.

The two were accused of rioting in a public place by fighting and disturbing public order at a food court in Sibu Jaya at 8.58pm on last July 4.

As a result of the act, the two accused were charged under Section 160 of the Penal Code.

This sentence provides for imprisonment for up to six months or a fine of up to RM1,000 or both if convicted.

According to the facts of the case, on July 4 at about 8.30 pm Ekih had acted to take Patreccia’s mobile phone before an argument broke out between the two of them.

Ekih also acted to slap Patreccia’s right cheek twice causing her to retaliate. Both accused also suffered minor injuries.
