BINTULU: Two Indonesian men were arrested here yesterday on suspicion of being involved in drug trafficking.

Bintulu District Police chief Superintendent Zailani Amit said a raid on the suspects was carried out while they were in a rented room of a shop at Jalan Abang Galau here at 3 pm yesterday.

According to Zailani, during the raid police found 53.12 grams of ‘syabu’ with an estimated market price of RM6,000.

“Our initial investigation revealed that both suspects aged 21 and 23 years have been in Bintulu for a year,” he said.

He added that the suspects were involved in the distribution of ‘syabu’ around the old Bintulu market using online purchases and barter system.

The case is being investigated under Section 39 (b) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952 where an offender is liable to a mandatory death sentence by hanging upon conviction.
