KUCHING: Two residents survived a wee-hour fire which destroyed their home in Kampung Gersik, here this morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) which was alerted to the fire at 1.56am dispatched firefighters from the Petra Jaya and Padungan fire stations to the scene.

“The commander on scene reported that two adult male occupants managed to escape unhurt.

“An adult woman, a mother who lives with them, was not in the house at the time of the fire as she is admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment.

“The fire destroyed their house,” a FRD spokesman said.

The firefighters used water from the fire engines and a nearby fire hydrant to fight the fire which was brought under control by 2.16 am. They prevented the flames from spreading to four nearby houses.

The whole operations ended at 3.23 am.

A Pusat Sehenti Pasca Insiden (post-fire incident services centre) was set up at the location to collect information from the residents in the area about the incident and to ascertain the cause and losses incurred.
