BAU: Two men were arrested for alleged involvement in drug abuse on Thursday.

The arrests were made following a public complaint of suspicious activity in the town area around 7.10pm.

District police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said a patrol team from the Bau Crime Prevention and Community Safety and the army carried out an inspection of the area.

The team arrived at the scene and arrested two men aged 22 and 33.

“Inspections resulted in the discovery of a small box containing a plastic packet with crystalline lumps believed to be syabu.

“The drugs weighing around 0.73g were seized and taken along with the suspects to the police station.”

Poge added that the duo tested positive for drug abuse and one of them had a criminal record.

Both suspects are now remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

If convicted, they can be fined not more than RM100,000 or sentenced to prison for not more than five years or both.
