Two siblings escape unharmed in blaze

MIRI: Two siblings managed to escape unharmed after a teachers’ quarters on the second floor of a four-storey building caught fire at Jalan Jee Foh 9 last night.

The two siblings who managed to escape unhurt after their home caught fire.

A spokesman from the Sarawak Fire Department (Bomba) said via a press statement that the siblings aged nine and 11, got out to safety after realising their kitchen was on fire at 6.35pm on that day.

They were handed over to the emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) unit for a check-up.

It was reported that their 44-year-old father, 38-year-old mother and four-year-old sister, were not at home during the incident.

After receiving an emergency call, firemen from Miri Central and Lopeng stations were urgently despatched to the scene where they started extinguishing the blaze immediately upon arrival.

They found at the start that the flames had already caused about 60 per cent damage to the quarters’ kitchen and living room.

The fire was successfully extinguished at 7.05pm and the operation wrapped up at 8pm. Its cause and losses incurred are still under probe.
