Two theft suspects held after high-speed chase

SOME dangerous weapons, live ammunition belts and bullet casings found inside the pick-up truck which are allegedly stolen.

KUCHING: Police here arrested two men on suspicion of stealing a pick-up truck in an incident at Jalan Stapok, Batu Kawah New Township yesterday (June 11).

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah in a statement, said that prior to the arrests, a high-speed chase ensued between the two and Sungai Maong policemen at Jalan Datuk Tawi Sli.

“Inspections on the vehicle led to the finding of some dangerous weapons such as a Rambo knife, a machete and a samurai sword.

“Other than that, the police also found an unused live ammunition belt and bullet casings,” he said.

Both the suspects in their 20s and 30s and the seizures were taken to the police station for further action.

An investigation paper has been opened under Section 6 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 and Section 8 (a) of the Arms Act 1960, which provides for a jail term up to seven years or a fine up to RM10,000, upon conviction.

Ahsmon added that background checks found that both suspects each had 38 and 19 past records for various offences.

He stated that the investigation paper will be referred to the state prosecutor for further instructions.
